RI Weather for January 31, 2023 – John Donnelly

Image
by John Donnelly, meteorologist A cold front sweeps through overnight with some mixed rain and snow ending as all snow around sunrise, totaling up to an inch, maybe two in the higher elevations. Dry air fills in behind the front, with a cooler high in the upper 30’s cooling down to late evening lows in the mid 20’s.with a northwesterly breeze gusting to 25 mph. Wind chills late will be down in the low teens. ___ John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst where the McCabe’s, Donnelly’s, Walker’s and Callan’s have been since after the Civil War . Source: https://thefoxposts.com/ri-

Juror Natalie Featherston says, “What an honor it was to be chosen as the juror for the 32nd Annual Fakes and Forgeries show this year. It was an incredibly difficult task to choose only a handful of pieces for awards out of such a stellar show. Seeing all the ways contemporary artists were inspired by the masters made this a very special exhibition. I wish I had another dozen or so awards to share to recognize all the wonderful work represented here.” The Spring Bull Gallery, is located at 55 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island, Wednesday to Monday from noon to 4pm. Homeless in RI: Update – Deaths, Point-in-Time count, Mobile Van, $30Million for ’24 shelters…

Image
Point-in-Time starts Jan. 25th The national – and Rhode Island – attempt to count those living unhoused begins tomorrow. Volunteers organized by the RI Coalition to End Homelessness will lead the effort with volunteers and other organizations to span out and count men, women, and children, if any, on the streets. In December the Coalition was raising funds to support the Coalition efforts, part of which was to go to buy gift cards to pay those they are counting for their cooperation. Tents and Sleeping Bags were also listed as items that could be purchased at certain donation levels. Inquiries about how people acquired tents and sleeping bags seem to point to some of them being provided by the agencies charged with helping people not sleep in tents and sleeping bags. Deaths There have been 2 confirmed deaths in Woonsocket of homeless individuals who were sleeping outdoors – one was an overdose in a man who had literally been given a place to sleep in a friend’s

A 2A update – Jeff Gross

Image
by Jeff Gross, contributing writer , commentary As the New Year is rolling along so are the lawsuits that look to protect the Second Amendment (2A). At last count there are 16 total magazine ban or Modern Sporting Rifle lawsuits in the US and that number is still growing, though some cases are being consolidated to save time. Notice the words “assault weapons” were not used and instead Modern Sporting Rifle. Modern Sporting Rifle is the correct phrase as AR-15s are in common use in the United States. The Assault weapon  term is most often used by the media and politicos and anti-gun advocates to create hysteria. That is what the true use of the term “assault weapon” is all about. If politicians truly wanted to protect the citizens, they would not be allowing violent criminals out on cashless bail like what is happening in New York,  Illinois, and other states. The bottom line is gun control is about control, period. As History has so well taught us, an unarmed society i
